Asbestos

When is an asbestos inspection needed?

Asbestos inspections are required before renovation or demolition activities in almost all commercial or public structures.  This includes offices, schools and universities, retail spaces, and industrial facilities.  Some, but not all, residential structures are exempt from this federal requirement.

Asbestos is a collective term for a group of six (6) minerals.  The asbestos minerals are natural, found in the Earth’s crust.  Like other minerals, the varieties of asbestos occur as crystals, but unlike more well-known mineral crystals (like quartz), these crystals are very thin, small, fibers.  The three types of asbestos fibers that were mined and used the most were chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite.
